About Us
Coach Jessica Callahan - Director
Jessica
is a 1996 graduate of Alvin High School, where she played volleyball,
basketball and ran track. While at
AHS, she was named Honorable Mention All-District her Junior year, and in her
Senior year she was named First Team All-District.
Lettering in all three sports, Jessica was recruited as a
Sophomore to play volleyball and basketball under a full scholarship to Utah
Valley State College. While at UVSC
she was named Honorable Mention All-Conference as well as being named to the
Arizona
tournament team.
After two years at UVSC she accepted another two year full
scholarship to The University of Houston, playing under Bill Walton. She
graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2001 with a degree in Communications.
Prior to college Jessica participated in Club Volleyball
for four years with the Houston Juniors. Her
coaching career began in 1998, coaching various club teams including Texas
Elite, Texas Westside, Club Baja, and Texas Riptide.
Coaching age ranges of 12 – 18 during
this time, she learned how to handle skill levels at various ages of maturity.
In 2001 she accepted the Head Volleyball
Coaching position at her Alma Mater, Alvin High School.
During her tenure there the teams were District Champions as well as Regional
Qualifiers. She was also named
Coach of the Year All-District and Coach of the Year Brazoria
County while there.
In 2004 Jessica resigned from High School
coaching to stay at home with her children. However
she continues coaching volleyball by running summer camps and training sessions
throughout the Houston, East
Texas, and Golden Triangle Areas. She
also provides private lessons and training for elite athletes throughout Harris County and surrounding areas.
Jessica returned to High School coaching in 2007 as Head
Volleyball Coach at Atascocita High School.
Jessica has been married to Adam Callahan for 8
years and they have two children, Aiden (4) and Keegan (2).
Adam is the Head Track and Cross County
Coach for Northshore
High School, competing in
college prior to his current career. When
she is not coaching volleyball Jessica can be found running boot camp and
fitness classes at the local YMCA.
Coach Shawn Shackelford - Director
Shawn
is a graduate of Channelview High School
where she was a four year letterman.
While at CHS she saw play-off action every year and played in 2 state
tournaments. She was named MVP of her
district, 1st team All-State and East All-star alternate her senior
year. She was also named to the
All-Tournament State Team. While in high
school she racked up a 41-0 district record under the leadership of John Turner.
Shawn received a full scholarship to Lamar University, under a legend in volleyball,
Katrinka Crawford. While at Lamar
Shawn set three individual setting records, most assists in 1) a single match,
2) a single season (1,609) and 3) career (4,780). During her junior year the
Lady Cardinals were the Sunbelt Conference Champions and earned an automatic bid
to the NCAA National Tournament traveling to
Arizona
State. She was named to the
first All-Conference team her junior and senior years as well as the
All-Conference All-Tournament team those years.
She was also named to the All-Conference All-Academic Teams her junior
and senior years. In addition to all these
accomplishments, Shawn received the Babe Zaharias Award for outstanding
female athlete at Lamar University.
Shawn is in her 14th year of coaching.
She has been in the Beaumont area for the last 10 years and has coached at
Baytown Sterling High School, West Brook High School,
Vidor High school, and
Atascocita High School.
While at West Brook, her team went to play-offs for four years in a row,
going as far as the Area Play-offs in her 30-8 season.
While Head Volleyball Coach at Atascocita in 2006, the Lady Eagles
earned a play-off seed in their inaugural year and were Bi-District champs.
She was also named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Shawn is now the Head Volleyball and Head Track Coach at Hardin-Jefferson
High School after making a difficult decision to leave Atascocita High School in
order to work closer to her family.
This is Shawn’s third club to be affiliated with.
She coached at Jefferson County Juniors, in Beaumont, and also founded
Beaumont Juniors while at West Brook.
She is now the Administrative Director for H.I.T. Volleyball Academy.
Shawn is married to Jason Shackelford for 7 years now.
Jason is an Environmental Engineer in the
Beaumont
area. She has three children.
Stuart Flowers, who just turned 18.
She also has a set of boy/girl twins, Kassidy Fay and Skyler Thomas who
will be 7 in July.
