Coaches

HIT Volleyball Academy takes interest in the quality of the coaches it acquires for its club teams.  Here is a brief bio of each coach for the 2007-2008 season.


Jacqueline Sparks - 10-11 Developmental Team

Jacqueline Sparks, is a graduate of Barbers Hill HIgh School and received a scholarship to play for the Lee College Rebels in Baytown.  As a Sophomore durng the 2007 season she returned to lead the Lady Rebels as they attempted to reclaim the conference championship.

During her freshman season at Lee, Jacqueline was named to the All-Conference, All-Region and All-Region Tournament teams. Additionally, she led the 2006 team in overall digs (440) and digs per game (3.28). She was the second most proficient hitter on the team with 363 total kills. Academically, Jacqueline received the Class Act Award for her high GPA.

For relaxation, Jacqueline likes to spend time with family and friends, camp out, listen to music and go dancing.

HIT is fortunate to have someone with Jacqueline's temprement to work with our future volleyball athletes.


Jessica Scherr - 14 Black

Jessica is a 2003 graduate of Kingwood HIgh School where she was named All-District Outside Hitter her Junior and Senior years.  From Kingwood Jessica attended West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) in Amarillo under a full volleyball scholarship.

In her Freshman year at WTAMU, she earned Honorable Mention Lone Star Conference accolades as a result of tallying double digit kills and digs in twenty plus matches.  In her Sophomore year, she led the team in kills (363) and digs (511) and was named to the Lone Star Conference Division Honor Roll for academic achievements.  During Jessica's Junior year she once again led the team in kills and digs and was named to the Lone Star Conference Second Team. 

In finishing her Senior year she helped the team set a new school record of twenty-nine consectuive match wins.  WTAMU also went to the NCAA Division II Final Four in Pensacola, Florida and finished the year with a 34-4 record. Jessica made the First Team All-LSC South Division by amassing 454 kills and 452 digs in her final season.

Jessica has coached various camps in the Amarillo and Dallas areas during her four years at West Texas A&M. She also coached a 12-Under team one club season while in Amarillo.

Jessica says, "I am looking forward to coaching young, talented, entergetic players in the fundamentals of the game for HIT Volleyball Academy."

Carl Arnold - 15 Black

Before moving to Texas in 1990, Carl refereed High School and College volleyball for ten years in Utah.  Upon moving he refereed Texas High School volleyball for another two years. He is a certified Level 1 American Volleyball Coaching Association (AVCA) coach and has attended numerous coaching and officiating clinics.

Carl is very aware of the work associated with being a top rank volleyball athlete as he had three daughters which played High School, Club and College Volleyball as well as one son that played Club, High School and is currently playing at the AA level. 

Now in his ninth year of club volleyball, Carl has been very succesful coaching teams for Alvin Juniors, Club Wave, Texas Riptide, and most recently Absolute Volleyball Academy (AVA.) Teams of his have qualified and played in the Tour of Texas and have finished ranked as high as ninth in the Lone Star Volleyball Region. His teams have also been very successful at the Lone Star Regional Tournaments, Cross Court Tournaments and have won numerous Houston area tournaments throughout the years. 

 One thing that not many know about Carl is that he played soccer in high school and college.  He also played three years of 'futbol' while living in Germany (one doesn't dare say soccer when talking about the sport in Europe.)  Carl has also been known to referee Club Soccer games.

HIT is very pleased to have Carl as a member of its coaching staff this year.


Jennifer Theobald - 16 Black

Jennifer played volleyball for and graduated from Alvin High School, receiving several awards including Texas District 24-5A MVP.  She was also First Team All-District, First Team All-County, Top County Offensive Player, and Team MVP. 

Upon graduating AHS, Jennifer was granted a full scholarship to Lee College where she played her main position of Outside Hitter as well as Middle and Right Side.  In both her Freshman and Sophomore years at Lee College, Jennifer led the team in aces.  Her accolades at Lee include First Team All-Region both years and she was an All-Academic student.

In her spare time she she likes to stay in tune by playing Beach Volleyball.

Brianne McCabe - 16 Black

Brianne is a 1999 graduate of Highland High School in Bakersfield, California.  While at Highland HS, Brianne lettered three years playing on the Varsity squad and broke the school record for all-time kills in a single match (45).  She also played club ball for three years with the Kern River Volleyball Club in Bakersfield.

Brianne received a full volleyball scholarship to the University of Alaska at Anchorage (UAA) where she lettered all 4 years with the Seawolves.  When she left UAA she held many school records ranking 3rd in All Time Kills, 5th in Total Blocks, 3rd in Block Assists, 9th in Blocks per Game, and 10th in All Time Block Solos.  She was also the Team Captain for the 2001 and 2002 seasons and garnered the Team MVP award in 2002.  Among her other accomplishments Brianne was named to the 1st Team All Conference for both the 2001 and 2002 seasons and the All Region Team in 2002.  In 2001 she ended the year ranked 12th in Blocks for Division 2 NCAA Volleyball.

After college Brianne moved to Beaumont with her husband, Marcus, where she became an assistant at Lamar University for two years.  She took a short stint in Eugene, Oregon coaching the Webfoot Volleyball Club 15s for one season, but has now returned to the area.  Brianne has been married almost six years and has two adorable children, Austin (4) and Cali (9 months).

Brianne will be assisting mostly with the 16s team, but will also help with all the other teams when needed.  HIT if very fortunate to have Brianne and welcome her as an addition to the club.

Shawn Shackelford - 18 Black

Shawn is a graduate of Channelview High School where she was a four year letterman.  While at CHS she saw play-off action every year and played in 2 state tournaments.  She was named MVP of her district, 1st team All-State and East All-star alternate her senior year.  She was also named to the All-Tournament State Team.  While in high school she racked up a 41-0 district record under the leadership of John Turner.

Shawn received a full scholarship to Lamar University, under a legend in volleyball, Katrinka Crawford.  While at Lamar Shawn set three individual setting records, most assists in 1) a single match, 2) a single season (1,609) and 3) career (4,780). During her junior year the Lady Cardinals were the Sunbelt Conference Champions and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA National Tournament traveling to Arizona State. She was named to the first All-Conference team her junior and senior years as well as the All-Conference All-Tournament team those years.  She was also named to the All-Conference All-Academic Teams her junior and senior years.  In addition to all these accomplishments, Shawn received the Babe Zaharias Award for outstanding female athlete at Lamar University.

Shawn is in her 14th year of coaching.  She has been in the Beaumont area for the last 10 years and has coached at Baytown Sterling High School, West Brook High School, Vidor High school, and Atascocita High School. 

While at West Brook, her team went to play-offs for four years in a row,  going as far as the Area Play-offs in her 30-8 season. 

While Head Volleyball Coach at Atascocita in 2006, the Lady Eagles earned a play-off seed in their inaugural year and were Bi-District champs.  She was also named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. 

Shawn is now the Head Volleyball and Head Track Coach at Hardin-Jefferson High School after making a difficult decision to leave Atascocita High School in order to work closer to her family.

This is Shawn’s third club to be affiliated with.  She coached at Jefferson County Juniors, in Beaumont, and also founded Beaumont Juniors while at West Brook.  She is now the Administrative Director for H.I.T. Volleyball Academy.

Shawn is married to Jason Shackelford for 7 years now.  Jason is an Environmental Engineer in the Beaumont area.  She has three children.  Stuart Flowers, who just turned 18.  She also has a set of boy/girl twins, Kassidy Fay and Skyler Thomas who will be 7 in July.
